Why do centre of mass describes only translatory motion

The CoM will always remain at the same position with respect to the body(unless the body changes it's shape). However, suppose a ball(with CoM at its geometrical centre) is moving along X-axis at 1 m/s. Then the position of CoM will keep increasing by 1m every second from the origin, but actually it will still always lie at the geometrical centre of the ball.
