This is because Retina of chicken's eye contains very few rod shaped cells which are sensitive to brightness of light.

As chicks has more cones than roads their eyes are adapted to daylight since cones are sensitive to bright lights. Chicks has minimum number of rod cells, so they are unable to see things clearly at night.
