chromosome contain DNA to transfer the characteristic of parents to their young ones. They also help in cell division.

Nucleus is the centre of control of all the activities of the cell and therefore most important activity of cell division is controlled by it's constituents. DNA ( Deoxyribonucleic Acid) is responsible for transferring characters from parents to offspring or from mother cell to daughter cells. Genes are also present on nucleotides of DNA. It is necessary for the offspring to have it's parents characters to continue that generation and if we talk about cell, then daughter cells should have the characters of mother cell to continue the same functions without causing any abnormalities.

Thanks.
Hope this helps!!
