Coconut tress not only in the coastal areas it grows in non coastal areas too. Coconuts have a higher requirement of water . So it is easier to grown them at those areas. In non coastal regions high necessity of water is matched by using coco peat near the roots of coconut trees so that the water stays near the root

Coconut trees grow mostly on coastal areas because the coconuts are the seeds of the coconut tree and and coastal areas are required by the tree for pollination. as the coconut breaks apart it falls in the seas or oceans and gets pollinated by the water to distant lands or territories.
