when copper is exposed to the open air which has many elements present in it, the item made of copper turns green or greenish .

This is because copper reacts with atmospheric oxygen and hydrogen and gets corroded .

This kind of corrosion occurs at a much faster rate when a copper product comes in contact with moist air

Answer:

Copper reacts with moist carbon dioxide present in atmosphere and develops a layer of basic copper carbonate on it, which is green in colour.In this way, Cu vessels lose shine when exposed to air.

Cu+O2+H2O+CO2----- Cu(OH)2.CuCO3

{Basic copper carbonate}
