Why do covalent bonds become weaker as you move down the group

as the atomic radius of atoms increases there is an increase in bond length
and there is an increase in atomic radius along the group
and we know that bond length is inversely proportional to bond energy or bond strength
and thus
we can say that the bonds become weaker as we move down the group
