Why do covalent bonds only occur between Groups III-VIII and not I and II? Be specific.

Note: So basically why do covalent bonds only occur between nonmetals. I know the sometimes happen with metal but we haven't gotten there soooo^^^

Answer:

this is because the metals of 1,2 groups have 1,2 electrons in their outermost shell or reacting electrons are only 1,2 which less as compared with non metals therefore the metals of 1,2 group

gives there all reacting electrons to non metals and complete there octet and non metals also complete there octet therefore most of the metals of 1,2 groups are forming ionic bonds not covalent bonds.
