The molecules in covalent compounds are held by weak van der Waal's forces, hence they have low melting points and boilling points as a compared to ionic compounds.

Covalent compounds have low melting and boiling points because they do not have a strong electrostatic force of attraction (as in the case of ionic bonds) and therefore the bond between them is not so strong. In this case the heat required is much less as compared to the ionic bonds and hence, covalent bonds have low melting and boiling points
