To reduce the force by which it will strike there hand ,, by increasing time interval one can decrease the magnitude of force,,, as impulse remains constant,,, in this whole activity,,,,,,
I can also explain u this by saying that a boy falling from a height on a rigid floor gets hurt more then the boy who ,,, falls from a height on sand ,,, as when he falls on sand he press the layer of sand by which he increases the time interval therefore,,, he gets less hurt,,, in the same way for cricketer ,,he takes off his hands just to reduce the force by increasing time interval ,,,
In all this remember that impulse remains constant
Force is indirectly proportion to time interval
