why do cubes join together when pressed between two palms?

Ice has a function to cool its surroundings by taking up heat in the surroundings.

So now if you put pressure on 2 ice cubes against each other they melt a little but the first ice cube at the same time tries to freeze its surroundings i.e the other ice cube and the second ice cube also reacts in the same way.

This results in freezing of the little water which is in between of the two cubes and also acts as joining the cubes.
