Hello...
Your answer ..
✒The synthase enzyme converts the amino acids sulfoxides of the onioninto sulfenic acid. The unstable sulfenic acid rearranges itself into syn-ropanethial-S-oxide. Syn-propanethial-S-oxide gets into the air and comes in contact with our eyes. The lachrymal glands become irritated and produces the tears!

In the cells of onion enzyme synthases and sulfoxide (amino acids) are present seperately. When we cut they combine and form syn- propanethials oxide which becomes sulfenic acid on combining with air. Because of this acid lacreymal glands of eyes get irritated and produce tears.
Hope this helps!!!!
