Dams cause a lot of damage because of, like if it rain too much and the dam is not constructed properly and breaks down it will cause a flood due which many things will get effected. If the dams break or there is so much of access of water because of the rain then the hydroelectricity could not be produced cuz of which it will create problem among the people and the light in the areas where light goes and comes.

1. Regulating and damming of rivers affect their natural flow causing poor sediment flow and excessive sedimentation at the bottom of the resovoir.

2. Dams fragments rivers making it difficult for the aquatic fauna to migrate.

3. The Reservoirs that are created on the flood plains also submerge the existing vegetation and soil leading to its decomposition over a period of time.

4.Multi purpose projects and large dams have also been the cause of many new social movements like 'Narmada Bachao Andolan' and 'Tehri Dam Andolan'.

5. Irrigation has also changed the cropping pattern of many regions with farmers shifting to water intensive and commercial crops. This leads to salination of soil.
