Removing barriers or restrictions set by the government is what is known as liberalisation. Liberalisation of foreign trade and foreign investments is what has helped in the process of Globalisation.

Developed countries want developing countries to liberalise their trade and investment because then the MNCs belonging to the developed countries can set up factories in less-expensive developing nations, and thereby increase profits, with lower manufacturing costs and the same sale price.

But some of the developed countries have unfairly kept the trade barriers even when they had promised to remove it. With Trade barriers for the developed country and no trade barriers for the developing countries, the producers of the developed country benefit a lot as their products would be sold without tax and in their own country they would be facing minimum competition from foreign traders.
