Why do diamond and graphite the two allotrophic form of carbon evolved different amount of heat on combustion?

Diamond has strong covalent bonds in it where as graphite had layered structure attached by weak wandervall forces . thats why both evolve at 2 different temperatures thus require different amount of heat on combustion
