Why do doctors advise to put strips of wet cloth on the forehead of a person having a high temperature?

Answer: We know that in case of fever, the temperature of our body increases compare to normal temperature. . When strips of wet cloth are put on the forehead of person having fever, the water in the cloth absorbs heat from hot forehead to essentially. It helps to decrease the extra heat in the body caused due to high fever and helps to reduce body fever.

 

As these strips can absorb heat from the body that ultimately reduces the temperature of the body through the process of evaporation. Since evaporation will absorb heat from body, that will bring the body temperature to the normal value

When a person has fever, his body temperature becomes more than the normal body temperature. If we put strips of wet cloth on the forehead of a person suffering from high fever, the water evaporates taking heat from the body. Thus, moist strips will lower his/her body temperature.
