Why do dogs pant with their tongues sticking out?
is it because the production of saliva cools their body or sth else?

By doing this a large am mount of tongue is exposed to air .and it makes them feel cool.evaporation takes place which is cooling process.

Dogs  can't  sweat  like  us.They  do  sweat   through   their   paws. But  pantimg  helps  them  the  most.By  panting  they  circulate   the  necessary  air  through  the  body  to   cool  down.Panting  may  mean  that  your  dog  is  happy, hot  or  both. But  if  your  dog  is  panting  heavily  after  exercise  it  could mean  that  it's  suffering  from  heatstroke.A  dog  also  has  a  thick  fur  so  it  has  to  stay  cool.Panting  could  also  mean  that  something  is  wrong  with  your  dog  physically. It  could  mean  that  it  has  ingested  poison, has  got  a  heart  problem  etc.
