why do dry apricot placed in salt solution do not swell while they do when kept in water

Apricot doesn't swell up in salt solution as the salt drains out the water already present in the apricot but in water there is nothing to obstruct it...so my answer is that the amount of water drained out is equals to the amount of water intaken.
