We say that the 4s orbitals have a lower energy than the 3d, and so the 4s orbitals are filled first. We know that the 4s electrons are lost firstduring ionisation. The electrons lostfirst will come from the highest energy level, furthest from the influence of the nucleus.

Hundz rule

1. s
2. s p
3. s p d
4. s p d f
5.......

draw cross lines 1st at 1s then 2nd line at 2s then 3rd line at 2p which will also cross 3s ......

draw such lines on and on the lower the subshell in the line the later it fills.
GOT IT.
