why do electrons in a conductor move from one end to another plz explain

Electric current is due to the flow of electron in a medium. In aconductor(without electric field applied),the electrons move in a random manner. When the field isapplied it is aligned in a particular direction and moves from higher to lower potential.Electron doesnot literally move from one end to another.
