Why do element present in a group show similar chemical properties? Study rankers?

Because elements in the same group are similar in chemical proprety but vary in physical property because for example in Alkane group there are only 2 elements i.e. carbon and hydrogen these carbon and hydrogen every carbon and hydrogeb in the alkane group will have same chemical property for example if methane reacts with oxygen ethane will also react with oxygen because they have common elements i.e. Hydrogen and carbon.But they vary in physical property according to the number of elements and bonding type.

And anyone suggest weather it is right or wrong answer me quickly please..
