why do environmentalists get worried due to small population of species?

Because soon the small population of species would become endangered because of many reasons such as less forest area , reproduction, killing of animals, hunting and poaching, etc. Sometimes they may be killed by other animals of the forest. In this way the population of that particular specie of animals goes on decreasing which may lead to extinction. Sometimes, extinction is really bad as it can cause disturbance in food chain, gives less knowledge about the species which are already extinct. That's what makes environmentalists worry.
