Farmers plough the soil because they have to bring the nutrient rich soil under the top soil onto to the top so that plants get enough nutrients.
If farmers don't bring the nutrient rich soil onto to the top then the plant would not get nutrients as the nutrients in top soil is already used by the previous plant
