During dry seasons, rate of evaporation is faster than during the rest of the year.
At many places, water in reservoirs is exhausted before the end of the dry season.

To overcome the shortage of the water scarcity,Certain chemicals are added by farmers  to water bodies to reduce the surface evaporation.
Cetyl alcohol is commonly used for suppressing evaporation from lakes and reservoirs.

Cetyl Alcohol is white waxy solid at room temperature. It is derived from the Latin word Cetus meaning --- Whale oil.Cetyl alcohol is non toxic .

Working Mechanism : When farmers sprays the cetyl alcohol on the surface of the water,a thin mono molecular film is formed over the surface of the water and reduces the rate of partition.
