due to a type of chemical reaction called bioluminescence. This process occurs in specialized light-emitting organs, usually on a firefly's lower abdomen.

fire flies glow at night because there is a special pigment present in fire flies which goes oxidation and light energy is released as a product of this reaction thats why it glows
