why do floating plants have a waxy coating on their leaves?​

Waxy coating is actually above cutical and upper epidermis which control water loss . It actually does respiration. It allows breathing,same time these leaves have long spread together more sunlight also give buoyancy. Most of leaves have type of coating but floating plant have pronounced.
