Forensic labs analyze non-coding DNA because the DNA being examined is not connected to any part of the DNA since it may contain the coding for a disease or a specific condition.
Hence if the sample contains a gene that is coded for a specific type of protein, there is a much higher possibility that more than one person will have the same DNA sequence in their genome, and thus it can be wrongly identified.
