why do fruits fall down when we shake a tree vigorously???

we know that a body tends to remain in state of uniform motion or rest until some external force is applied ...
in this case the fruits are at rest and according to law of inertia they tend to remain at rest when the tree is shaken... so they fall down as they tend to remain at rest ...
