the top layer of soil loses its fertility due to continuous exposure to sun .so soil needs to be loosened up so that top soil can be replaced by the underground soil which is more fertile than the upper layer...

Gardeners do so because turning and loosening of soil time to time Allows the roots to penetrate deep into the soil. The loose soil allows the roots to breathe easily.

By loosenimg ,various nutrient hrld in the dead organisms are teleased back into the soil.These nutrients are again absorbed by the plants
