The molecules and particles of gases do have very large intermolecular spaces between them . This leads to high energy in them and that's why they keep on colliding in the container exerting pressure on its surface . Solids do not have much intermolecular space and that's why the kinetic energy of particles in it is low and therefore it doesn't exert pressure .

because gas molecules move randomly in all directions therefore they collides on each other also on the wall of container with higher velocity therefore they exert more pressure
