Answer:
Gases do not have a definite shape or volume because the molecules in gases are very loosely packed, they have large intermolecular spaces and hence they move around. The force of attraction between molecules is also very less, as a result gases acquire any shape or any volume.

Gases do not have any definite shape or volume
This is because of primarily 3 reasons :
- The molecules of gases are extremely loosely packed with one another.
- The gas molecules have large inter-molecular spaces (i.e. large distance of separation between the centre of the molecules).
- This in turn results in very low intermolecular forces acting in between the molecules.
Hence, gases cannot acquire any definite shape , instead take up the volume of the container.
Also, these reasons manifest for two more properties :
- Gases have very low density.
- They can be expanded or contracted in a container.
Hope It Helps.
