Why do harris and jim regret taking only flannel suits for the trip ?

Jim and Harris jointly took the decision of taking flannel suits at the time of packing. George, at the time of packing had assured them that he knew how to wash them. So Jim and Harris were quite happy at the prospect of washing the suits in the water of Thames. However, later on during the trip they came to know George didn't know even the first step of washing, they were in trouble. So, both of them had to face many hardships on account of trusting George in this matter.
