It is a nutralization reaction, in which a base reacts with an acid to neutralize it's effect, and the by-products are salt and water.

HCl is an acid and NaOH is a base.

The reaction took place

HCl is an acid. NaOH is a base. Whenever an acid and a base reacts with each other, they form salt and water as products. That's why when HCl (acid) reacts with NaOH ( base) , they form NaCl ( salt) and H2O( water).
