Because the more the area the less the pressure so that it does not give too much pressure on the ground

They have broad tired so that no problem occurs while driving. Force exerted by the gravity upon the vehicle and the weight of the vehicle can be easily lifted by the broad tires rather than thin tires. The area used by heavy vehicle is larger so it must be exerting more pressure and that pressure can only handled by the tires because of the large amount and pressure of air inside them and resulting in less pressure acting upon the ground..that's all
