Why do herbivores have a longer small intestine?

because digestion of herbs n all will take more time and there is requirement for more absorption therefore to increase the time of absorption the animal body will be facilitated with longer small intestine

As the animal consume grass as food which contain cellulose and other fibrous material it is hard to digest.Longer intestine favours passing of food slowly which promotes necessary digestion.Also bacteria present releases enzymes which breakdown food particles and convert to glucose which is energy source for animal.
