The historians call the modern period in Indian history a period of colonial rule because it was under the foreign occupation since 1757 to 1947. The British had turned India into a colony. We see there was an economic exploitation and unilateral drain of wealth from colony (India) to Metropole (Britain).
The British used the resources and raw material of the colony ( India ) for the development of Britain and its people.
