Why do Holmes and Watson think of the almanac instead of any other book?
Answers
Answer:
Holmes and Watson think of almanac instead of any other book because the first book that they thought of was ‘bible’ but Holmes said that it could not have been the bible as it was hardly likely to lie at the elbows of one of Moriarity’s associates and each edition of the bible is paginated differently, they need to find a book that is same everywhere and common too. The second book that they thought would have the ciphered message was ‘Bradshaw’ but Holmes rejected that idea too because the vocabulary of railway timetable is limited and it doesn’t lent itself for sending out general messages and while saying that he also says that a dictionary wont neither be used for such matter. The last book that Watson thought of was ‘Whitaker’s Almanac’. They tested Watson’s theory and ended up with a very convincing sentence that made Holmes and Watson think that the Almanac is the book from which the message was originally ciphered.
