Why do houses in Ladakh have flat roofs

✒ In earlier times the climatic conditions was very cold as compared to present time and there were no more options to keep their house warm instead of burning woods and cowdung . During earlier times winter was so long that they have to use woods and cowdung carefully to sustain whole long winter. Due to less vegetation in this area as woods were very expensive at that time .So it was best to build houses lower in height and build the face of house towards east to keep house warm in cold winter. You can see that in ladakh most of the entrance of house are towards the east direction .And Earthquake can be another reason because Ladakh comes under VI zone of sesmic zone of India .
