why do in automobiles, the rear view mirrors have warning written as 'object seen in the mirror may be closer than they appear'?

coz it's a convex mirror and it is a diverging mirror hence it magnifies image and so it is written as objects in the mirror are closer than they appear

Because covex mirror is used in vehicles and it provides a wide field of view, which makes the objects to seem smaller. Because of this the smaller objects seems to be farther away than they are .... That's why it is written that 'Object in the mirror are closer than they appear '
