The Janata government finds itself in a rather enviable position as far as its foreign policy options are concerned. Wooed ardently by both Russia and America and not so ardently by China, Morarji Desai is in a position to pick and choose. His recent trip to Moscow and the forthcoming visit of President Carter to Delhi later this month are indications of the importance countries attach to India in international politics. But Desai's commitment to "total non-alignment" has pleased the Americans more than the Russians.
