ionic compounds conduct electricity in water coz they contain ions which is responsible for producing electricity without ions electricity can not been conduct.

Ionic compounds have break into cation and anion ie shows metallic and electro positive character...that is it is good conductor of heat and electricity..... So ionic or electro valent compounds conduct electricity in water.....
