Ionic bonds are very strong. A lot off energy is needed to break them. So ionic compounds have high melting and boiling point.

Answer:

Ionic compounds have high melting point because in ionic compound cations and ions are held together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction.

Hence large amount of energy is required to overcome these forces.
