Because there is a strong attraction force in ionic bond than covalently bonded molecules.
To break bonds in ionic compound more energy has to be supplied. So ionic compounds have high melting point than covalent compound

Answer:

Ionic compounds have high melting point because in ionic compound cations and ions are held together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction.

Hence large amount of energy is required to overcome these forces.
