in Ionic compunds the postive and negative ions are held together by strong intermolecular forces. Therefore,a lot of heat energy is required to break these bonds. That's why ionic compounds have high melting points.

Hey there !
Solution:
Ionic compounds are compounds that are formed by the transfer of electrons between the constituent elements which results in the formation of ions.
That is, NaCl is an ionic compound that is formed when Na donates one electron to Cl and becomes Na⁺ and Cl borrows one electron donated by Na and becomes Cl⁻.
Due to this transfer, each of them fill their octet structure. Due to this they remain the most stable compound. Hence large amount of energy is required to break their bond called Ionic Bond.
This energy can be seen in terms of High melting and boiling points. Hence Ionic Compounds have high boiling and melting points.
Hope my answer helped !
