ionic compounds do notconduct electricity when they are solid, but they do conduct electricity when they are dissolved in water or when they are melted because in molten state these ionic compounds forms ions. these ions are responsible for the conduction of electricity.

ionic bonds have a strong India ionic attraction in them therefore they have a rigid structure and they do not allow the movement of ions but when they are heated and converted into the molten state they are love the movement of ions in them the movement of Ions is known as electricity
for example solid NaCl does not conduct electricity where as molten NACL conducts electricity.

hope its helpful blue
