It is because the magnetic field intensity near the magnet is greater. ... Because it is due to a magnetic field, which is caused by moving electrically charged particles.

It is because of the magnetic field produced by magnet which exerts a force on other metallic or magnetic object in its viscinity. So as iron filling is magnetic in nature so it gets attracted by magnet.
