Why do leaves of some plants get modified?

The species which are strong enough to face with the tough environment situation can survive remaining will get extinct.

So to survive in tough situations. the plants try to modify something to get adapted with that particular environment.

so plant in desert modify their leaves to spines to prevent loss of water

and to survive in that situation

Like the C4 plants are modified with kranz anatomy .

In this the mesophyll are converted into bundle sheath cells .

It helps in reducing phototranspiration .
