light has wave nature.
when it falls on a polished surface it gets reflected .
when light ray travels from one medium to another medium, due to change in velocity it gets refracted.
hope it helps u...

kvnmurty: reflection occurs due to interaction of atoms on the surface with light particles/photons.

light has a dual nature that is particle nature and wave nature.
because of the wave nature of the light the light when strikes a hard surface or polished surface it gets reflected by bouncing back from the surface whereas when there is a change in the nature of the medium then the light gets refracted due to the change in the velocity of light in that particular medium.
