Living organisms need energy to move, excrete, grow, reproduce and maintain themselves.

In all living cells, including animals and plants, food molecules are broken down by a reaction called oxidation.

Oxidation : Breaking down of food molecules ;a chemical reaction in which a molecule gains oxygen or loses hydrogen.
