Animals and plants need to reproduce to keep their numbers steady or growing so that the species does not become extinct… Evolution has occurred because living organisms reproduce.. those who are less suited to a changing environment may not survive to cope with the changes. some may be more suited so are more likely to reproduce organisms with the factor that is more suited.. eg long beak.. eventually long beak becomes normal in the species and the animal has adapted to the environment until of course it changes again. Those that are less suited die out.. animals do not live for ever so they have to reproduce to keep the species going… The lower down the food chain you are the greater numbers and the more often you have to reproduce.. If reproduction ended there would be no animal life on the planet after 150 years or so and no plants life after a thousand years or so most would be gone long before only a few big trees would last very long..

Hope it helps you
