The more carbon and hydrogen atoms there are in a molecule, the more potential energy there is in the molecule, since more H-O and C=O. bonds will be formed when one molecule of the fuel combusts. However, that does not mean that fuels with longer chains have more energy per gram than fuels with shorter chains.
